British Prime Minister reverses decision over land based casinos

February 8th, 2008 by admin

The British Prime Minister has caused shock by reversing a decision he made last year relating to land based casinos.

Approximately six months ago Mr Brown was commended by charity and church groups for making the decision not to allow the go ahead for 16 small casinos to be built. Instead he opted for one super casino to be built in Manchester.

Now he has sent notifications to the Welsh and Scottish governments announcing that he has reversed that decision and has asked the 16 smaller licencees if they wish to continue with their projects to build. All 16 have said that they would.

His decision means that the one super casino in Manchester will not go ahead and has left the council there furious. They stand to lose out on a reclamation project planned for a poor part of the city.

It has been reported that the inconsistency has lead the Shadow Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, to say that the government’s review was a nothing more than a political stunt.
