Gaming reports have repeatedly shown that the typical age for slots players is over 40, and so providers are looking to their designs to try and attract a younger audience. Even in Las Vegas where the focus is on partying, table games take preference and slots are largely ignored by the younger generations.
This has highlighted to many casinos that changes are required in the near future to begin to redress the imbalance. This means many casino planners are now enlisting the assistance of video machine design to revamp their slots to make them more appealing to those outside of the average demographic.
These advancements include increased use of joysticks to increase the enjoyment of playing, surround sound, and increased interaction such as that demonstrated by the success of the Nintendo Wii. Networking links will also be added to increase the social aspect which is missing from most casino games.
